Roberto Romanello Wins the Poker Stars EPT Prague
Full Tilt sponsored poker pro Roberto Romanello is on a winning spree. After winning the World Poker Tour Bratislava in the beginning of April this year, he stands a good chance to join the elite club of Triple Crown winners. To do that, all he needs now is to win the WSOP title for this season.
When Roberto Romanello won the Poker Stars EPT Prague main event in December 2010 at the Czech Republic, it was the second time he had made it to the EPT final table. He had finished sixth at the EPT Copenhagen during the previous season, adding DKR 570,000 to his winnings. The Copenhagen winning was the best score of his career until the EPT Prague win of €640,000.
The European Poker Tour Prague main event saw a gathering of 563 players from 47 countries at The Hilton Prague Hotel. More than hundred players qualified for the live through online poker satellite tournaments held by PokerStars. A huge prize pool of €2,730,550 was created and 8 players qualified for the grand final. Marco Leonzio, Roberto Nulli and Emiliano Bono from Italy, the Welsh Roberto Romanello, Marcin Horecki of Poland, Jan Bendik from Slovakia, Peter Skripka from Russia and Manuel Bevand of France, all made it to the final table of the PokerStars EPT Prague.
On the final day, Marco Leonzio led the table with the highest number of chips. There were some quick eliminations with Roberto Nulli going first. He claimed 8th place worth €54,550. Within few minutes of Nulli’s departure, Manuel Bevand was eliminated to take seventh place and becoming richer by €71,000. This was Bevand’s career best win. Next in line to go home was Jan Bendik of Slovakia who was eliminated by Peter Skripka. Bendik claimed sixth place earning €100,000.
It was two long hours of solid poker where the chip lead moved from one player to another, till the next player was eliminated. This time it was Marco Leonzio who fell to Romanello. He made €130,000, claiming fifth place. Peter Skripka was next in line and was eliminated by Marcin Horecki to claim fourth place for €163,000. The chip leader now was Marcin Horecki, but he soon gave up a huge part of his stack and was eliminated to third place, making €247,000 in the bargain.
Emiliano Bono and Roberto Romanello went into the heads-up stage, with Roberto taking the chip lead. There were plenty of twists to the tale with Romanello winning five pots in a row at one point in the game. Finally, Romanello raised and Bono re-raised; Romanello went all in as Bono called, but it was all over by the turn when the cards showed 10d-4c-4d-5h-4h. Roberto Romanello beat Emiliano Bono for the champion’s title to the EPT Prague.
This is how the Prague final table ended up:
1 Roberto Romanello €640,000
2 Emiliano Bono €435,000
3 Marcin Horecki €247,000
4 Peter Skripka €163,000
5 Marco Leonzio €130,000
6 Jan Bendik €100,000
7 Manuel Bevand €71,000
8 Roberto Nulli €54,550
For Roberto Romanello winning the Poker Stars EPT Prague title was an emotional moment, “I’ve been trying to do this for a very long time,” he said. “This means everything to me. “I feel ecstatic.”
