Craps is a game that has never truly excited me. Basing your bets on the roll of the dice is exactly why it’s termed a crapshoot: You have absolutely no control of what the outcome is.
However, that being said, there are strategies that can be employed when playing online craps.
Craps, unlike a number of other online casino table games, is the type of game where many of the more successful players use the same strategies. The strategies generally involve knowing where the smart bets are.
The safest bets in craps are the bets where the house has a much smaller edge. For instance, a Pass Line bet only yields the house a 1.41% edge, and a Don’t Pass bet only yields the house a 1.40% edge. While these bets don’t pay off nearly as well, there’s a much better yield for the player. All other bets give much more away to the house itself.
A lot of established players will place a bet along with their Pass or Don’t Pass bet. Before we get, let’s explain Pass and Don’t Pass bets. A Pass bet is placed by a player putting his chips on the Pass Line bar. The Pass Line bet is made before the shooter (dice roller) has established what his point is. It’s an even money bet, and the safest bet to make in Craps. If the dice lands on 7 or 11 on the come out roll, it’s a winner. If 2, 3 or 12 lands it’s a loser.
The Don’t Pass bet is also made before the shooter’s first roll, but the bet is the opposite of Pass. You win if the come out roll is 2 or 3, and lose if the come out roll is 7 or 11. If a 12 is rolled, the bet is a tie.
Craps probabilities have a lot to do with betting strategies. The chances of rolling a 2 or 12 carries a probability of 2.78% each, while rolling a seven has the highest probability, at 16.67%.That’s why the Pass Line bet is considered the safest bet in craps. Understanding what the probabilities are in the roll of the dice has a lot to do with improving your chances of becoming a better craps player.
Online craps is even harder than real time craps in a casino, because online sites employ Random Number Generators that change their algorithms with each individual roll of the dice. It makes it completely random.
Craps is a game where managing your bankroll becomes extremely important. Because of its random nature, it’s important to set limits, especially if the dice aren’t rolling your way on a particular night. Also, be prepared to lose. The house has the edge in craps more so than in any other game.
