First, you should know how the game is played. You, and all the other players at the table, are each given two cards, faced down, so only you can look at them. A betting round follows, where players take clockwise turns at placing their initial bets. The betting starts with the person to the left of the Dealer (or the player that has the “Button”) – that position is known as the Small Blind. The person to the left of the Small Blind is the Big Blind, and both these players are obligated to place a bet at the beginning of the hands, with the big blind being twice as large as the small blind.
Once the betting round is completed, there are three community cards who get turned face-up on the table – this is the “flop”, and subsequently the previous round was the “pre-flop”, and now we’re in the “post-flop” betting round, because, as you might have guessed, there’s yet another betting round – this time, the Small Blind gets to act first.
After this betting round is complete, another community card is turned on the table – this is the Turn. A third betting round commences, and the Small Blind is yet again the first one to act. After all players place their bets, there is one final card that gets turned on the table – the River. One more betting round follows, and after that is complete the winner is declared, as the player who has the highest made poker hand. You can make any poker hand available with your two cards and any of the five turned community cards. If along the way there are less than two players left in the game, the remaining player is automatically the winner.
